Ron is a town in Gadag district in northern Karnataka and the headquarters of a taluk of the same name. It sits on the broad, level plateau of the Deccan, a landscape of dark cotton soils, wide fields and big skies. On a map the town is a compact knot of streets set in the middle of a huge agricultural landscape.
Its centre is a close grid of lanes and small blocks, with markets and older houses grouped together. Wider roads lead from it to neighbouring towns and villages across the district.
