Te mapa
Sa‘īr is a town in the hills north-east of Hebron in the southern West Bank. The land here is folded into ridges and valleys, and the town has spread along the slopes instead of across flat ground. On a map, streets follow the contours, bending around hillsides and dropping into small valleys. The result is an irregular, organic pattern.
The town is known for a mosque traditionally associated with the tomb of Esau, which has made it a place of local significance for centuries. The surrounding country is agricultural, with terraced plots and orchards on the slopes. Toward the east, the land falls away toward the Judaean Desert.
A Sa‘īr map poster reflects that relationship between the town and the terrain. There is no grid here. Instead, lines curve and branch along the hillsides, denser in the older centre and more scattered on the outskirts. In a minimalist print, the topography comes through in the shape of the roads alone.
Roads wind along ridges and around hillsides instead of running straight, so the map shows a flowing, branching pattern.
The older core around the mosque is the densest part of town, with short lanes that close in on one another.
On the outskirts, scattered roads and farm tracks cross the terraced slopes and thin out toward the drier land to the east.
