Te mapa
Salina lies in central Kansas, where Interstate 70 and Interstate 135 meet. The city is a clear example of the Great Plains pattern, with straight streets in a regular grid and long arterial roads running to the edge of town and on into the flat farmland without a bend.
The one thing that breaks the grid is the Smoky Hill River. It loops through the older part of the city in wide meanders. Over time it has been partly channelled and bordered by levees for flood control, so on the map the natural curves and the straighter engineered sections sit close together, and the street pattern bends to fit around both.
The city grew as a railroad and grain town, and elevators and rail lines still mark the landscape. A Salina map poster reads almost like a technical drawing: a disciplined grid with a single meandering river running through it and the two interstates framing the edges.
The river loops through central Salina in broad meanders. It is the one strongly curved line in an otherwise rectangular city, and the eye follows it across the whole print.
Santa Fe Avenue and the blocks around it form a tight, orderly downtown grid, the densest part of the map, set close to the river.
I-70 and I-135 meet on the western and northern edges of the city, drawing long confident lines that frame the grid against the surrounding farmland.

Koteā ko Salina
Salina is the kind of place people carry with them after moving on: a childhood in Kansas, a college year at Kansas Wesleyan, a first job in town. Its clear grid looks especially good framed, calm and legible from across a room.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a graduation year or a street name. Choose one of five styles. Blueprint suits the grid well, and Paper and Sand add warmth. It comes as a digital download or a printed, optionally framed poster.
