Te mapa
San Pedro Carchá lies in Alta Verapaz in the highlands of Guatemala, right next to the departmental capital, Cobán, so that on a map the two towns nearly touch. The Cahabón River runs past Carchá, and the town's streets form a grid that bends and breaks where the land rises into the surrounding hills.
This is karst country, and the terrain is visible even in a street map: roads curve around rounded hills, and the grid stops abruptly where slopes become too steep. Beyond the town, the pattern opens into scattered settlements and winding rural roads that follow the valleys through farmland used for coffee and cardamom.
A San Pedro Carchá map poster shows the town's central grid, the line of the river and the irregular edges where the hills take over. Carchá is a centre of Q'eqchi' Maya culture, and Alta Verapaz is among the world's leading cardamom-growing regions. The map pairs a colonial-style plan with a landscape that dictates where the streets can go.
The river winds past the town, a soft curved line against the straighter streets, and continues through the valley toward the lowlands.
The central blocks form a regular grid that breaks up at the edges, where rounded karst hills force roads to curve and climb.
Carchá's streets run almost into those of Cobán, so a wider frame shows two towns joined into one continuous settlement.

This is a map for people with roots in Alta Verapaz or for travellers who passed through on the way to the region's rivers and caves. The mix of grid and hills gives it an unusually organic outline.
