Te mapa
São José do Norte occupies the southern tip of the long, narrow strip of land that separates the Lagoa dos Patos from the Atlantic Ocean. Directly across the channel connecting the lagoon to the sea lies the port city of Rio Grande, reached by ferry. On a map the town sits right at the water's edge, with sand, wetlands and shallow lagoon margins stretching away to the north.
It is one of the older settlements in Rio Grande do Sul, and much of its character still comes from the water around it: fishing, small boats and the regular crossings to Rio Grande. The municipality is also known for growing onions on its sandy soils. Inland the landscape is flat and open, with long straight roads, small lagoons and low dunes.
A São José do Norte map poster shows a place defined almost entirely by water. The lagoon shore, the channel and the ocean coast wrap around a compact cluster of streets, and the thin peninsula gives the composition a striking shape. It suits people from the town, from Rio Grande across the water, or anyone who has taken the ferry and remembers the view back.
The channel linking the Lagoa dos Patos with the Atlantic separates the town from Rio Grande, a broad band of open water that dominates one side of the print.
The land here is a slim sandy strip between lagoon and ocean, so water frames the town on more than one side and gives the map an unusual outline.
Along the Lagoa dos Patos the shore breaks into shallow inlets and marshy edges, a soft, irregular line against the neater pattern of the town streets.

Koteā ko São José do Norte
For people from São José do Norte and Rio Grande, the channel between the two towns is part of daily life, and a map with the water at its edge makes a meaningful keepsake. The shape of the peninsula also simply looks good on a wall, even to someone who has never been.
