São Lázaro is one of the parishes of the Macau peninsula, on the southern coast of China at the mouth of the Pearl River. It is small in area and very dense. On a map it shows as tightly packed streets and blocks, with main roads cutting through a finer network of lanes, and the green rise of Guia Hill nearby.
The parish is named after the Church of St. Lazarus, and around it is an old quarter of narrow streets and squares from Macau's Portuguese period. Modern towers and busy roads now surround that older core, so the street pattern shifts between historic lanes and wider planned avenues.
