Te mapa
Taipa was once a separate island south of the Macau peninsula. Land reclamation has since changed its outline. To the south, Cotai links it to Coloane with a wide belt of flat new land. To the north, several long bridges cross the water to the peninsula. To the east, Macau's airport runway extends into the sea on reclaimed ground.
Taipa Village, the old core, is still a small area of narrow lanes near the former shoreline. Around it are apartment towers and newer districts laid out on a larger scale. The contrast between the old and new street patterns is easy to see on a map.
A Taipa map poster reads almost like a diagram of how Macau has grown. The bridges extend north, the reclaimed land spreads south, and the old village keeps its tighter grain. It is a very dense frame for a place of only a few square kilometres.
Several long bridges cross from Taipa to the Macau peninsula. On the map they appear as bold lines over the water, the island's clearest links to the city.
The old centre has a finer pattern of short, irregular streets, which stands out against the larger blocks and wide roads built around it.
Straight, engineered shorelines to the south and east, including the airport area, show where new land was added to the island.

Koteā ko Taipa
Taipa is home, a workplace or a familiar stop for many people in Macau, and its map records a place in constant change. The mix of bridges, reclamation and old lanes gives the print a lot of structure.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be changed, for example to mark the year you lived there. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as $9 HD files or a printed poster.
