Te mapa
Sayansk is a young town in Irkutsk Oblast, built in the 1970s to house workers for a large chemical industry complex. It was planned from scratch, and the map shows that clearly: a compact, orderly arrangement of residential microdistricts, wide main avenues and a separate industrial zone, all cut out of the surrounding taiga.
The town sits in the Siberian forest belt, and the woodland wraps around the built-up area on all sides. Because it was designed in a single phase, there is none of the gradual accretion seen in older towns. Blocks repeat in regular modules, and the major roads form a clear framework that holds everything in place.
A Sayansk map poster highlights the geometry of late Soviet planning. The large rectangular blocks, broad streets and deliberate spacing create a strong graphic structure, while the forest around it frames the town like a clearing. It suits anyone with a connection to the place and those who appreciate modernist urban design.
Residential areas are organised into large, repeating blocks typical of Soviet-era planning, giving the map a regular, modular appearance.
A few wide, straight roads structure the town and link its districts, forming a clear skeleton that is easy to read on the poster.
Dense forest surrounds Sayansk, so the town appears as a clearly defined island of streets set within a wide, open margin.

Koteā ko Sayansk
Many people who grew up in Sayansk have since moved across Russia and beyond. A map of the town recalls its particular order, from the courtyards between blocks to the forest just past the last street.
