Te mapa
Shuangjiang lies in the hill country of southeastern Guizhou, a region of steep, forested ridges and narrow river valleys. The name means two rivers, and the town occupies the kind of low ground where watercourses come together and flat land is scarce. Streets follow the valley floor and the riverbanks, leaving the slopes around them mostly open.
This part of Guizhou is home to Dong and Miao communities, and the surrounding villages are scattered along the valleys and terraced hillsides. On the map, the built area forms a narrow, elongated shape, with roads winding out along the rivers toward neighbouring settlements. The terrain dictates everything, and almost no line is straight.
A Shuangjiang map poster emphasises that closeness between town, water and mountain. The river lines run through the middle, the streets crowd beside them, and the rest of the frame is taken up by curving roads through the hills. It is an intimate, irregular composition that feels very different from a lowland grid.
The town's name, meaning two rivers, reflects its setting in a valley where watercourses join, and those river lines form the backbone of the map.
With flat ground in short supply, the streets squeeze along the valley and riverbanks, giving the town a long, narrow footprint.
Roads leave town along the valleys and curve around the ridges, drawing looping lines across the otherwise open, mountainous parts of the poster.
