Te mapa
Shuen Wan is on the eastern side of Tai Po in Hong Kong's New Territories, along the northern shore of Tolo Harbour. On a map it is a narrow band of settlement squeezed between the water and the hills. Roads follow the coast, and small village clusters and low-rise housing sit where the land is flat enough to build.
Behind Shuen Wan the land rises steeply into the country park hills north of Tolo Harbour. Plover Cove Reservoir lies further east. Old walled and clan villages in the area sit beside newer houses, which is common in the New Territories. The harbour itself is a long, sheltered inlet, and its calm water shapes much of the view.
A Shuen Wan map poster shows the edge of the New Territories: a winding coast road, small clusters of lanes, and large areas of water and hill around them. It is very different from Hong Kong's dense towers. The poster is quieter and more open, with the harbour and slopes giving the composition its structure.
The shoreline runs along the southern edge of the map, with small bays and seawalls. The broad, calm water of Tolo Harbour fills the space beyond.
A single main road follows the shore and connects the villages to Tai Po town. Short lanes branch off it toward houses and the hills.
The land rises quickly north of the settlement into steep, wooded country park hills. On the poster they read as a wide, calm field with few lines.
