Te mapa
Solan lies in the lower Himalaya of Himachal Pradesh, on the road and railway between Chandigarh and Shimla. The town occupies a series of ridges and slopes at roughly 1,500 metres. From above, its streets appear as winding lines that loop around hillsides, climb in switchbacks and cluster wherever the ground levels out enough to build.
Solan is often called the Mushroom City of India, a name linked to the national mushroom research centre based there, and it is also known for its tomatoes and for one of the oldest breweries in the country. The Kalka–Shimla Railway, part of the UNESCO-listed Mountain Railways of India, passes through the town on its way up to Shimla.
A Solan map poster is all curves: the national highway bending along the slopes, the thinner railway tracing its own path through cuttings and tunnels, and residential lanes branching off in every direction. Wooded ridges and steep ground leave open spaces between the built-up areas, so the town reads as a series of connected clusters.
The narrow-gauge line winds through Solan with tight curves and tunnels, a fine thread on the map that follows the terrain more closely than any road.
Streets double back on themselves as they climb the hillsides, drawing zigzag patterns that show just how steep the ground beneath the town is.
The main bazaar area sits along the higher ground, where the densest cluster of streets marks the commercial core before the town spills down the slopes.

Koteā ko Solan
Solan is familiar to students, families and travellers on the way to Shimla, and to anyone who has ridden the toy train up into the hills. The map captures the twisting mountain geometry in a way that makes an elegant, restful wall piece.
