Te mapa
Songwŏn-ŭp is a settlement in Chagang Province, in North Korea's northern highlands. The suffix ŭp marks it as a town-level administrative centre. As in much of Chagang, the setting is steep and forested, and the built-up area occupies what little level ground the valleys provide.
Reliable detail about the town is scarce, so it is best described through its terrain. On the map, the few main roads count for a great deal. They follow the streams, bend with the valley walls and connect the town to the scattered settlements beyond the ridges.
A Songwŏn-ŭp map poster is sparse by nature. A limited network of streets and roads sits against a large amount of open space, and the lines trace the land's contours rather than any planner's intent. The result is quiet and graphic, and it feels far from the usual city print.
The principal roads keep to the valley bottoms beside running water and form the backbone of the town's layout on the map.
The administrative town forms a small, denser cluster where the valley widens, clearly different from the thinly settled land around it.
The mountain terrain of Chagang surrounds the settlement and leaves wide areas without streets, which gives the poster generous negative space.

Koteā ko Songwŏn-ŭp
Some people hang a map because they know the place, others because they are fascinated by how land shapes a town. Songwŏn-ŭp serves both, as a minimal print of a mountain settlement that few have ever seen drawn.
Personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line as you wish, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper gives the sparse lines a soft, archival feel.
