Te mapa
Southend-on-Sea lies on the north shore of the Thames Estuary in Essex, where the river widens toward the North Sea. The map is framed by water to the south: a long, straight seafront running east to west, and beyond it broad mudflats exposed at low tide. Inland, the streets form a regular pattern of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, with main roads leading west toward London.
The town's best-known feature is Southend Pier, which stretches more than two kilometres into the estuary and is often described as the longest pleasure pier in the world. On a map it appears as a single fine line running far out across the water, one of the most striking shapes on any British coastal poster.
Southend was granted city status in 2022. Its boundaries take in Leigh-on-Sea to the west, with its old fishing quarter and cockle sheds, and Shoeburyness to the east. A Southend-on-Sea map poster follows that shoreline from the creeks near Leigh to the open estuary beyond the pier, with the dense residential grid behind.
The pier runs straight out into the Thames Estuary for over two kilometres, a single thin line that extends well beyond the shoreline on the map.
A long, straight promenade follows the coast from Westcliff to Thorpe Bay, with cliff gardens, beaches and rows of beach huts along its length.
At the western end, narrow tidal channels wind through the marshes near Leigh-on-Sea, where the old fishing village meets the estuary.

Koteā ko Southend-on-Sea
Southend has been a day-trip destination from London for generations, and for many people it is where childhood summers happened. The long pier makes the map immediately recognisable to anyone who knows the town, even at a glance.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a street, a wedding date or simply the pier. Choose one of five styles and download six sizes, including A3 and A2, for $9, or order a printed poster from a print partner.
