Te mapa
Spartanburg sits in the Piedmont of upstate South Carolina, between the Blue Ridge foothills and the rolling country to the south. It is called the Hub City because so many railroad lines once converged here, and the map still shows tracks radiating from the centre like spokes. Interstates 85 and 26 pass close by and repeat that pattern at a larger scale.
Downtown is organised around Morgan Square, named for General Daniel Morgan, who won the Battle of Cowpens not far from the city in 1781. Beyond the older street grid lie tree-lined residential neighbourhoods and the campuses of Wofford College and Converse University, whose lawns show as calm open spaces on the plan.
A Spartanburg map poster traces a city built by textile mills and railroads that is still closely tied to manufacturing across the upstate. The uneven Piedmont terrain bends roads around creeks and ridges, so the grid is never quite regular. In black and white, the converging lines of rail and road make the city's nickname visible at a glance.

Several railway lines meet near the city centre. Their long diagonals across the map show exactly why Spartanburg is called the Hub City.
Wofford College and Converse University add large, open green shapes to the map, surrounded by quieter residential streets close to downtown.

Koteā ko Spartanburg
Wofford and Converse alumni, families who have lived in the upstate for generations and newcomers drawn by its industries all have reasons to hang this map. It records a city whose shape still reflects the railroads that built it.
