Te mapa
Stoney Creek is the eastern part of Hamilton, and its map reads in horizontal bands. The lakeshore runs along the north, the Queen Elizabeth Way follows just inland, and the older town and suburban streets fill the level ground to the south. Then the Niagara Escarpment rises sharply, drawn as a wooded edge, and above it the upper streets spread across flatter land.
The community takes its name from the creek that cuts down the escarpment, and it is known for the Battle of Stoney Creek in June 1813, when British and Canadian troops made a night attack on an American camp during the War of 1812. Battlefield House and its monument stand on the site today. Stoney Creek became part of the City of Hamilton in 2001.
A Stoney Creek map poster captures that layered geography clearly. The escarpment shows as a break in the street pattern, the lakeshore as a long straight edge, and the gullies of small creeks as threads that tie the two levels together. It is a local map with an unusually legible landform behind it.
The Niagara Escarpment divides lower and upper Stoney Creek, and on the map the street grid stops abruptly at its wooded slope, leaving only a few roads climbing the face.
The northern boundary is the open water of Lake Ontario, a clean edge that frames the residential streets and the highway corridor running parallel to it.
The historic battlefield park sits among the streets below the escarpment, a patch of green that marks the site of the 1813 engagement and the monument raised to it.

Koteā ko Stoney Creek
Stoney Creek is often a map of home: the street where someone grew up, a first house near the lake, or the view down from the escarpment. As a print it stays understated, a neighbourhood map with a real sense of place built into its geology.
