Suffolk Map Poster & Print
Suffolk lies in south-eastern Virginia, west of Norfolk and Chesapeake, and is the largest city in the state by land area. Most of that land is rural, so the map is wide and open. Farmland, forest and waterways surround a compact downtown that grew up near the head of the Nansemond River.
The Great Dismal Swamp extends into the southern part of the city, a large protected wetland crossed by long straight ditches and roads. Suffolk has long been tied to peanuts. Planters ran a major plant here, and its Mr. Peanut character was first sketched by a local schoolboy. The city still holds a peanut festival each autumn.
