Te mapa
Tangxiang is the central urban area of Dazu, a district in the west of Chongqing Municipality. It lies in the hilly country of the Sichuan Basin, and the map shows it: streets follow the lie of the land, bending around slopes, and new districts spread across the valleys between older neighbourhoods. A small river runs through the town, with bridges tying the banks together.
Like many Chinese towns, Tangxiang has grown rapidly. The older centre has a finer network of streets, while newer areas have wide, straight roads, large blocks and landscaped parks. Around the edges, the lines break into terraced fields and farm tracks on the hills, with reservoirs scattered across the landscape.
Dazu is known worldwide for the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian sculpture carved into hillsides from the Tang to the Song dynasty. A Tangxiang map poster focuses on the town those visitors pass through: its river, its hills and the shape of its growth.
A small river crosses the town in soft curves. It is the main organic line on the poster and divides older and newer districts.
Roads bend around the slopes of the Sichuan Basin. Few streets run straight for long, which gives the map a flowing quality.
Wide roads and large blocks mark recent growth. They contrast sharply with the dense, finer network of the older centre.

Koteā ko Tangxiang
Tangxiang is for people from Dazu, and for those who visited the rock carvings and remember the town around them. Its hills and river make a map with plenty of movement.
