Te mapa
Teoloyucan lies in the State of Mexico, north of Mexico City on the flat floor of the Valley of Mexico. From above, it appears as a regular pattern of blocks around a central square. The town spreads across former farmland toward neighbouring municipalities such as Cuautitlán and Zumpango, and the gaps between them are steadily filling in.
The oldest streets near the centre follow the traditional colonial grid, while newer housing developments on the outskirts bring their own, more uniform layouts. The Teoloyucan map poster shows how these pieces fit together, with rural roads and remaining fields still crossing the edges of the growing urban area.
The town gave its name to the Treaties of Teoloyucan, signed in August 1914. Under them the federal army of Victoriano Huerta's government was dissolved and the capital was handed over to the Constitutionalist forces, a turning point in the Mexican Revolution. Like many towns in the valley, Teoloyucan has a name of Nahuatl origin.
The town centre is laid out around a main plaza, following the traditional Mexican grid. It is the anchor of the whole map.
Planned residential developments on the outskirts add areas of tightly repeated streets. Their uniform patterns stand out from the older town.
Remaining fields and rural roads border the urban area. They show the agricultural landscape of the valley floor that once surrounded the town entirely.
