Thekkumkara is a locality in Thrissur district in central Kerala. Like much of this region, it has no hard edge between town and countryside. Houses, temples, schools and small shops are scattered across a green landscape of coconut groves, paddy fields and waterways. The settlement is spread across the land instead of concentrated in one centre.
On a map this becomes a dense web of narrow lanes. They connect one house plot to the next and wander around fields and ponds. A few larger roads carry through traffic and link the area to nearby towns. The flat paddy land and water channels appear as open spaces between the lanes and give the map a rhythm.
