Tieqiao is a town in the north-east of Chongqing Municipality, in the steep, folded country north of the Yangtze. Unlike the flat grids of the plains, the map here is shaped by terrain: the built-up area follows the floor of a valley, and roads snake along hillsides, doubling back on themselves as they climb toward neighbouring villages.
Streams gather in the valleys and run toward the larger rivers of the Yangtze basin, and the land around the town is divided into small fields and terraces that follow the contours. Newer buildings concentrate along the main road, while farm paths spread thinly across the slopes, giving the map a light, branching structure.
