Coastal strip
The whole town occupies a thin ribbon between surf and cliff. This gives the poster a strong horizontal band of streets set between sea and empty desert.

Te mapa
Tocopilla stretches along a thin strip of flat land on the coast of the Antofagasta Region, with the Coastal Range rising almost vertically behind it. On a map the town is long and slender and pinned against the ocean. Its streets run parallel to the shore because there is simply no room to spread inland.
The port grew during the nitrate era, when railways brought saltpetre down from the desert to be shipped abroad. Today a thermoelectric plant and industrial port installations occupy a prominent stretch of the waterfront. A Tocopilla map poster shows these heavy shapes along the shore next to a residential grid that climbs only a few blocks up the lower slopes.
Behind the town the desert is almost empty on the map, crossed by a handful of roads that zigzag up the escarpment. Tocopilla is also the birthplace of the filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, who later returned to shoot his autobiographical film The Dance of Reality in the town where he spent his childhood.
The whole town occupies a thin ribbon between surf and cliff. This gives the poster a strong horizontal band of streets set between sea and empty desert.
Port installations and the power plant form large, blocky footprints on the shore. They contrast with the fine residential grid just inland.
Roads out of town have to climb the steep coastal range. Their switchbacks show as sharp zigzags cutting into the blank desert behind.

Koteā ko Tocopilla
People carry Tocopilla with them, often through mining and port families now spread across Chile. The map shows its unusual geography plainly: a town held between cliff and ocean and recognisable from its outline alone.
Set the title and subtitle in your own words, and choose Noir or Sand to echo the desert coast, or keep Classic black & white. Download for $9, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
