Te mapa
Tacna is the southernmost major city of Peru, lying in the valley of the Caplina River close to the border with Chile. Around it stretch the dry landscapes at the northern edge of the Atacama Desert, so the city appears on the map as an island of streets and irrigated land in otherwise open, empty terrain.
The centre follows a regular colonial grid, with the cathedral and the Paseo Cívico, where a tall parabolic arch honours the heroes of the War of the Pacific. Wide avenues lead out from the core toward newer districts that spread across the valley floor and onto the surrounding slopes. Beyond them, roads run south toward the border crossing and Arica.
Tacna was under Chilean administration for nearly fifty years after the war and returned to Peru in 1929, a history that earned it the title of Heroic City. A Tacna map poster shows the orderly grid, the long valley and the desert edge, a clear portrait of a border city shaped by water and by its past.
The colonial centre forms a neat pattern of square blocks around the cathedral and the Paseo Cívico, the most regular part of the map.
The city stretches along the valley of the Caplina, a narrow band of irrigated land that shows how settlement follows water in this desert region.
Beyond the last streets, open desert surrounds the city, giving the map crisp outer edges and large calm areas that emphasise the shape of the urban grid.

Koteā ko Tacna
Tacna holds deep meaning for Peruvians as a symbol of return and national identity. It is also a familiar stop for travellers crossing from Chile, and a map of it records that meeting point between two countries.
You can set the title, add a subtitle such as Ciudad Heroica or a date, and keep the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Sand, and download files or order a printed poster.
