Te mapa
Alto Hospicio sits on the plateau directly above Iquique, on top of the steep coastal cliff that runs along northern Chile. From the edge, the land drops several hundred metres to the port city and the Pacific. On the map, this cliff is a clear boundary. Alto Hospicio's streets end abruptly where the plateau meets the drop.
The city grew very quickly from the late twentieth century, and much of it was built on bare Atacama desert. As a result, most neighbourhoods are regular grids of small blocks, sometimes turned at different angles where new areas were added. Around the edges, the streets stop and the dry, empty desert begins.
A road zigzags down the cliff to Iquique, the main link between the two cities. An Alto Hospicio map poster shows a city in the middle of the desert, with neat grids on the plateau and the sea visible just beyond the cliff.
The western side of the city ends at the steep coastal cliff above Iquique. On the poster the grid stops sharply along this line, and the drop becomes easy to read.
Most neighbourhoods are recent planned grids. Blocks meet at slightly different angles where new areas were added, forming a patchwork visible from above.
The main road down to Iquique switches back across the cliff face. At the edge of the map its curves contrast with the straight streets on the plateau.

Koteā ko Alto Hospicio
Many families in Alto Hospicio came from elsewhere and built their homes here as the city grew, and a map of it can mark that start. Add a family name to the title, write the year you arrived in the subtitle and keep the coordinates.
Sand suits the Atacama well, and Classic and Noir make the grid sharp. Paper and Blueprint are also available. Every $9 digital purchase includes 300 DPI PNG and PDF files in six sizes with no watermark.
