Te mapa
Tomé-Açu lies in northeastern Pará, where the Amazon rainforest has been partly cleared for farms and plantations. The town sits beside a river. On the map a compact street grid runs down to the bank and then quickly dissolves into rural roads and long, straight lines across cultivated land.
The area's modern history is unusual. Japanese immigrants began arriving in 1929 and founded an agricultural colony here. They later made the region one of Brazil's major producers of black pepper and developed mixed agroforestry that is now studied well beyond Brazil. That Japanese-Brazilian heritage still shapes local culture.
A Tomé-Açu map poster shows how small the urban core is compared with the land around it. The river curves along one edge, the streets form a tidy block of lines, and the rest of the frame is taken up by the road network of a farming region carved out of the forest.
The river forms a strong, meandering boundary on one side of the town. It is the one natural line the whole street grid lines up against.
The centre is a neat grid of short rectangular blocks, easy to read in full and clearly separate from the countryside around it.
Beyond the town, long straight roads cut across former forest. They trace the farm lots opened by the settlers who made the region known for pepper.

Koteā ko Tomé-Açu
Tomé-Açu matters to many Japanese-Brazilian families as the place where their story in Brazil began. A map of the town makes a thoughtful gift for relatives in Belém, São Paulo or Japan.
Add a surname, the year a family arrived or a line in Portuguese or Japanese to the subtitle. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries, and HD files are $9.
