Te mapa
Upper Arlington lies just northwest of downtown Columbus, with the Scioto River along its eastern edge. On a map it stands out from the rigid grids around it. Curving streets, crescents and irregular blocks spread across the suburb, broken up by golf courses, parks and school campuses.
The suburb was developed in the early twentieth century by brothers Ben and King Thompson as a planned community, and that design shows in its gently winding streets. Jack Nicklaus grew up here and learned the game at Scioto Country Club, one of several golf courses in the area.
An Upper Arlington map poster shows planned suburban design at its most graceful. Looping residential streets, the open spaces of the golf courses and the river boundary combine into a soft, flowing pattern that reads well at every size.
The original planned neighbourhoods use gently curving roads instead of a grid, a deliberate choice that gives the map its flowing, organic character.
Large golf courses, including Scioto Country Club, show up as open areas within the residential streets and give the composition room to breathe.
The river runs along the eastern side of the suburb, forming a natural boundary between Upper Arlington and neighbouring parts of Columbus.
