Te mapa
Várzea Paulista lies in the interior of São Paulo state, directly beside Jundiaí, and from above the two places run together with no visible seam. The town fills a series of low valleys, so its streets rarely hold a straight line for long. They curve around hillsides, climb in short bends and gather into small, irregular neighbourhoods separated by strips of green.
The name refers to a floodplain, or várzea, and the flatter land along the valley bottom holds the older core and the railway. The town belonged to Jundiaí until it became a separate municipality in the 1960s. Much of its growth since then has come as residential districts spreading up the surrounding slopes, one hillside at a time.
On a Várzea Paulista map poster the railway reads as a firm line through a field of fine, looping residential streets, with pockets of undeveloped hillside left blank between them. The result is a dense but organic drawing, closer to a contour map than a grid, and it suits the quiet contrast of the black and white styles.
A suburban rail line follows the valley floor through the town. It gives the map a steady backbone, with curving neighbourhood streets branching off on either side.
Residential districts climb the slopes in looping streets and cul-de-sacs, making an irregular, almost cellular pattern that changes character from one valley to the next.
Wooded ridges and steep plots that were never built on stay as empty spaces on the map. They separate the neighbourhoods and give the composition room to breathe.

Koteā ko Várzea Paulista
People know Várzea Paulista from the inside: the walk to the station, the street that climbs to a relative's house, the view across to Jundiaí. A map poster turns those everyday routes into a clean drawing worth keeping on the wall.
