Whole city in frame
With so small an area, the poster can show all of Warabi at street-level detail. Few cities can be framed this completely without losing the character of their lanes.

Te mapa
Warabi covers only about five square kilometres in southern Saitama, just north of Tokyo, which makes it the smallest city in Japan by area. It is also one of the most densely populated. On a map the whole city fits comfortably into a single frame, and nearly every part of it is a fine, irregular mesh of narrow residential streets with barely any open ground.
The railway crosses the city with Warabi Station at its heart, linking residents to central Tokyo. Long before the trains, Warabi was a post town, Warabi-juku, on the Nakasendō, the inland road between Edo and Kyoto. The line of that old highway still runs through the street pattern.
A Warabi map poster is unusual because you can see the entire city at once, from boundary to boundary, in real detail. The density turns into a rich texture of lines, and the result looks almost like a woven fabric, particularly in Noir or Classic black & white.
With so small an area, the poster can show all of Warabi at street-level detail. Few cities can be framed this completely without losing the character of their lanes.
Streets thicken around Warabi Station, where shops and apartments cluster. The railway draws a straight line through an otherwise irregular pattern.
The route of the historic highway is still traceable as a long street through the former post town, a thread of Edo-period planning in a modern commuter city.

Koteā ko Warabi
Warabi is a city people know intimately, often on foot, and its compact plan rewards that familiarity. A poster of it feels less like a map of a place and more like a map of a neighbourhood.
