Te mapa
Wokha is the headquarters of Wokha district in Nagaland and home of the Lotha Naga community. From above, it is a true hill town. Houses and roads follow the crests and shoulders of ridges, and streets switch back across the slopes in curves and hairpins. The contours shape everything, so no two blocks look alike.
The town sits below Mount Tiyi, a peak that holds an important place in Lotha tradition. To the south, the Doyang River and its reservoir became internationally known when conservationists recorded vast numbers of Amur falcons roosting there during their autumn migration. Local communities in the area are now closely involved in protecting the birds.
A Wokha map poster captures a settlement that grows with the land rather than across it. Winding roads trace the ridgelines, clusters of building sit on the slopes, and open valleys lie between them. It is an organic, flowing drawing that suits anyone with roots in Wokha or an attachment to the Naga hills.
Roads and houses follow the tops and shoulders of the hills. They form curving lines that reflect the terrain rather than any planned grid.
Switchbacks climb the steep slopes between parts of the town. On the map they appear as tight, looping curves among the built-up clusters.
Steep slopes fall away from the settled ridges into wooded valleys. They leave open space that gives the map its sense of height and depth.
