Te mapa
Yaese lies in the southern part of Okinawa Island, in Shimajiri District, south of Naha. The town was formed in 2006 by merging Kochinda and Gushikami, and its map covers a mix of rolling farmland, residential areas and a stretch of Pacific coastline to the southeast.
The land is hilly without being mountainous, and the roads follow ridges and dips in gentle curves. Small hamlets are scattered through fields, many planted with sugar cane and vegetables, and the more built-up area in the north is closer to the suburbs around Naha. Toward the coast the land drops away to the sea.
A Yaese map poster reflects southern Okinawa's quieter side: winding roads, village clusters and open fields, with the ocean as a clean edge. The drawing is less dense than a city map, but its curves and scattered settlements give it a relaxed, natural rhythm.
Fields of sugar cane and vegetables cover much of the town, and roads curve gently across the low ridges of southern Okinawa Island.
Small village clusters are spread out across the land, each a knot of lanes, reflecting the rural settlement pattern of the island's south.
The former Gushikami area reaches the coast, where the land ends in a line against the Pacific, giving the map a clear natural boundary.
