Te mapa
Yamoto is a former town in Miyagi Prefecture, merged in 2005 into the city of Higashimatsushima. It sits in the low, flat country northeast of Sendai, not far inland from Matsushima Bay. From above, the landscape is dominated by the neat geometry of rice paddies: small rectangular fields stitched together by irrigation channels and farm roads, with the town gathered along the main routes.
Rivers and drainage channels cross the plain in long, gently bending lines, and the JR Senseki Line passes through, with Yamoto Station at the centre of the built-up area. Settlement is concentrated rather than sprawling, so the map shows a distinct cluster of streets set against the fine patterned texture of the fields.
A Yamoto map poster captures a very Japanese kind of rural landscape, where water management shapes everything and the fields themselves form a graphic pattern. In monochrome, the paddy grid becomes almost textile, and the town, the rail line and the rivers sit on top of it with calm, clear weight.
Rice fields cover the plain in a fine lattice of small rectangles, giving the map a regular texture that fills the space around the town.
Long, gently curving rivers and straight irrigation channels cross the flatland, the key lines that organise the agricultural landscape.
The JR railway threads through the town past Yamoto Station, a firm line that anchors the settlement to the wider Sendai area.
