Te mapa
Yartsevo lies in Smolensk Oblast in western Russia, on the Vop, a small river that feeds the Dnieper. On the map, the Vop is the organising line: it bends through the town and splits the built-up area into sections on either bank, connected by a handful of crossings. Beyond the last streets, the map quickly opens into the fields, woodland and scattered villages typical of the Smolensk region.
The town grew around a textile mill founded in the nineteenth century, and its layout still shows that industrial beginning. Large blocks of former factory land sit near the river, surrounded by streets of apartment buildings and quieter districts of low houses with gardens. Railway tracks and the main roads towards Smolensk and Moscow run close by, adding long straight lines against the curves of the water.
A Yartsevo map poster shows these layers clearly. The curve of the Vop, the tidy blocks of the Soviet-era districts, the looser grid of private houses and the rail line all appear as simple black shapes on a pale ground. The town is also remembered for the heavy fighting near it during the Battle of Smolensk in 1941, part of the history many local families still carry.

Yartsevo grew up around a nineteenth-century textile mill, and the large industrial blocks near the river still anchor the street pattern that spread outwards from them.
The railway and the main roads through the Smolensk region cross the area in long straight lines, cutting cleanly past the river's curves and the residential blocks.

Koteā ko Yartsevo
Yartsevo is a place people tend to know personally rather than from guidebooks, which makes its map a very personal object. It suits someone who grew up by the Vop, whose family worked at the mill, or who wants to keep a hometown close after moving elsewhere.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to add a street name, a family name or an important year. Pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
