Te mapa
Yashkino grew up around a station on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the north of Kemerovo Oblast, and the railway still defines its shape. On the map the tracks form the strongest line. The town's streets are laid out in regular blocks alongside them, and industrial sites sit close to the railway, where they were built to use it.
Beyond the grid of wooden houses and apartment blocks, the land opens into fields and birch woods, and the Tom River valley is not far away. The orderly town contrasts with the loose outlines of forest and farmland around it. That contrast makes a clean, balanced composition in which the settlement ends clearly and the countryside takes over.
The town has a cement works and a large confectionery factory whose biscuits and sweets carry the Yashkino name across Russia. A Yashkino map poster shows the everyday structure behind that familiar label: the railway, the grid of streets and the Siberian countryside around them, drawn without any extra decoration.
The railway crosses the map as its most prominent feature. The station area sits at the heart of the town, and sidings lead off to industrial plots.
Streets of private houses and apartment blocks run in straight, regular lines. The pattern is typical of Siberian towns that grew up with the railway.
At the edges, farmland and patches of forest take over. Their irregular shapes soften the grid and mark a clear boundary between town and country.
