Yucheng lies in Shandong Province on the North China Plain, a vast, level landscape built up over thousands of years by sediment from the Yellow River. From above the town is compact and orderly, with main roads meeting at right angles and newer districts spreading outward in large rectangular blocks, surrounded by a patchwork of fields that reaches to the horizon.
Water management shapes much of the surrounding land. Straight irrigation and drainage channels divide the fields into regular strips, and villages appear as small clusters linked by narrow roads. The contrast between the dense core, the looser outskirts and the geometric farmland gives the map a clear, layered structure even without dramatic terrain.
