Te mapa
Yurimaguas stands on the banks of the Huallaga River in Loreto, Peru's largest region, which is dominated by rainforest and rivers. It is one of the few places in Loreto that can be reached by road, via the highway that descends from Tarapoto. That makes it a transfer point where travellers and cargo move from trucks to boats.
From Yurimaguas, riverboats head down the Huallaga toward the Marañón and eventually Iquitos, a journey of several days. The city is sometimes called the Pearl of the Huallaga. On the map, the town appears as a grid of streets pressed against a winding river, and the channel draws a broad curve through the frame.
A Yurimaguas map poster emphasises the relationship between land and water. Orderly street blocks on one bank contrast with the loops and bends of the river and its floodplain. In black and white, it becomes a clear image of a frontier town where the road from the Andes meets waterways that continue where roads cannot.
The river defines the edge of the city, and the port along its bank is where road and river traffic meet. On paper, this edge is the strongest line in the composition.
Behind the waterfront, streets form the regular pattern of blocks typical of Peruvian towns. They extend inland from the river until they thin out into the surrounding countryside.
The highway from Tarapoto enters the city and ends near the river. It is one of the few long road lines on the map, and it points back toward the Andes.

Koteā ko Yurimaguas
Many people pass through Yurimaguas on the way to Iquitos or deeper into the Amazon, and for them the town marks the moment the journey turned to water. For residents, the poster is a portrait of a river city that most maps overlook.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be personalised, for example with the date you boarded a boat downriver. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then download the $9 HD files or order a printed poster.
