The map
Zalaegerszeg is the seat of Zala County in western Hungary, close to the borders with Slovenia and Austria. The town lies in the valley of the Zala River, and on the map the river and its flat floodplain cross the southern part of the town. North and west of the centre the ground rises into gentle hills. Residential streets climb onto the slopes, and vineyards and woodland fill the land beyond.
The surrounding area is known as Göcsej, a hilly region with a distinct folk culture. Zalaegerszeg is home to the Göcsej Village Museum, Hungary's first open-air ethnographic museum, set by the river. The town also hosts the Hungarian Oil Industry Museum, reflecting the oil fields developed in Zala County in the twentieth century.
A Zalaegerszeg map poster shows a compact historic centre, a ring of later neighbourhoods and housing estates, and roads curving out into hills. The river valley running below the town and the softly contoured edges give the composition a relaxed, natural shape.
The Zala River crosses the town's southern side in a broad, flat valley. It gives the map a gentle horizontal line and a band of open land.
The historic core around the main square and church is dense and small. It sits at the meeting point of roads from across the county.
Wooded hills and scattered hamlets surround the town to the north and west. Winding lanes follow the slopes and soften the edges of the poster.

Why Zalaegerszeg
A map of Zalaegerszeg is a fitting keepsake for anyone from Zala or the Göcsej hills, or for those who studied or worked in the town. It is a restrained reminder of a place between river valley and hills.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a name or an important date. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit the room it will hang in.
