The map
Zhaozhou lies on the Songnen Plain in southwestern Heilongjiang, within the Daqing area. The land is almost completely flat, and on a map that flatness shows up as a regular street pattern. Roads run in straight lines, crossing at right angles, and the town sits in a wide field of cultivated land divided into long rectangular plots.
The urban area is compact, with a clear centre and a grid that extends toward the edges of town before turning into field roads and irrigation lines. Low wetlands and small bodies of water are scattered across the wider plain, adding soft irregular shapes to an otherwise geometric landscape.
This is farming country, with long winters and a short, productive growing season, and the town serves the agricultural county around it. A Zhaozhou map poster captures that balance between an ordered urban grid and the broad, level land around it, a quiet composition that works well at any print size.
Main roads run straight and cross at clean right angles, giving the town a clear geometric structure that is easy to read from above.
Beyond the built-up area, long rectangular farm plots and field roads carry the grid outward, so the town seems to dissolve gradually into the plain.
Small lakes and wetland patches across the Songnen Plain add rounded, irregular forms that soften the straight lines of the roads.
