The map

About this Zhongshu map poster

Zhongshu is the seat of Luliang County in Qujing, eastern Yunnan. It sits on one of the flat basins scattered across the high Yunnan–Guizhou plateau. From above, the urban area forms a compact, mostly regular grid of wide roads and large blocks, the kind of layout that has spread quickly across Chinese county towns in recent decades.

Beyond the built edge, the basin floor is a patchwork of fields, and the map fades from dense streets into the fine lines of farm roads and village clusters. Hills rise around the rim of the basin, so the town looks contained: a concentrated block of streets on level ground, with higher country in every direction.

The county is known for its sand forest, an area of eroded, multicoloured sand pillars that draws visitors to the region. A Zhongshu map poster focuses on the town itself: the straight avenues, the denser blocks near the centre and the gradual shift into agricultural land around it.

01

Basin-floor grid

Wide avenues and large, regular blocks spread across level ground, giving the core of the map a firm, geometric structure that is easy to read at a glance.

02

Patchwork fields

Around the town, farm tracks and field boundaries form a fine, irregular texture that contrasts softly with the confident lines of the urban grid.

03

Plateau setting

Higher ground encloses the edges of the basin, so roads leaving town begin to curve and climb, drawing the eye outward toward the surrounding country.
