The map

About this Al Brouj map poster

Al Brouj, also written El Borouj, is a town in the province of Settat in central Morocco, well inland from the Atlantic coast. It is the local centre for the surrounding farmland. From above it appears as a tight, clearly bounded settlement set in a wide, flat landscape of cultivated fields.

The town combines dense residential blocks with wider streets where the main roads enter and cross it. At the edges the built-up area stops quite suddenly and gives way to farm parcels and long straight tracks. The outline of the town is therefore sharply defined, and the difference between street and field is easy to read at any scale.

That clarity suits black and white well. An Al Brouj map poster shows a compact core, a handful of roads running out toward neighbouring towns, and the calm geometry of the plains. It is a modest composition that says a great deal about how inland Moroccan market towns are laid out.

01

Dense town core

The centre is built up in tight blocks and narrow streets. It forms the darkest and most detailed area on the poster.

02

Radiating roads

Regional roads leave the town in several directions toward the surrounding countryside. They draw long lines that stretch across the page.

03

Farmland edge

Fields surround the town on all sides, so the built-up area ends in a clear edge. The plains give generous open space all around it.
