About this Avondale map poster
Avondale lies west of Phoenix, part of the continuous metropolitan area that stretches across the Salt River Valley. Its map follows the familiar Arizona pattern of mile-spaced arterial roads, with each square filled by subdivisions of curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs.
The Agua Fria River runs through the city from north to south. For most of the year its bed is dry, but on a map it appears as a wide, irregular channel that breaks the regularity of the grid. Farther south, near the Gila River, the development gives way to farmland and open desert.
