The map
Chok Chai lies south-east of Nakhon Ratchasima on the Khorat Plateau, a broad, level upland that covers much of north-eastern Thailand. The ground is so flat that the map is shaped mostly by roads. Highways meet here and continue toward other provinces, and the town has grown along and between them in a loose, practical pattern.
Around the built-up area the land breaks into a patchwork of paddy fields, irrigation channels and small ponds, typical of the plateau's farming landscape. The district is also home to Dan Kwian, a village long known for its distinctive rust-coloured pottery, made from clay dug along the Mun River that crosses the area.
A Chok Chai map poster is a study in roads and fields. The highways give it a strong structure, the local lanes fill in the texture between them, and the agricultural land at the edges fades into a fine mesh of plots. The result is a calm, balanced composition built on horizontal ground.
Major roads cross near the centre of town and set the basic structure of the map. Shops and houses line up along them before the grid of side streets fills in.
Outside town the land is divided into small, regular plots and channels. From above this reads as a delicate net drawn across the flat plateau.
The Mun River winds through the district in slow bends, a soft line in contrast to the straight roads. It is the source of the clay used by local potters.

Why Chok Chai
For families from Isan and for anyone who has passed through on the road east from Khorat, this map shows the place as a simple meeting of routes and fields. It works well as a keepsake for a home town that rarely appears on printed maps.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a name in Thai or English and a date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand bring out the soft texture of the farmland.
