The map

About this Eastpointe map poster

Eastpointe lies in Macomb County, Michigan, directly north of Detroit, with 8 Mile Road forming its southern boundary. Until 1992 the city was called East Detroit, and its layout follows the classic pattern of Detroit's older suburbs: long, straight residential streets of modest houses, filling a closely spaced grid.

The strongest feature on the map is Gratiot Avenue, one of the historic radial avenues leading out of downtown Detroit, which crosses the city on a steep diagonal. Commercial strips line the main roads, while the residential blocks fill the spaces between them, broken up by schools, parks and churches.

An Eastpointe map poster is a study in density and order. The grid of residential streets creates a fine, regular texture, 8 Mile draws a hard edge at the bottom, and Gratiot slices across it all. Printed in Noir or Classic black and white, it gives a clear, graphic image of the post-war Detroit suburbs.
