The map
El Marsa sits on the Atlantic coast of Western Sahara, southwest of Laayoune, and serves as the port for the wider area. On a map the shoreline is long and nearly straight, running northeast to southwest, with the open ocean on one side and sand on the other.
The settlement itself is compact. Short streets gather near the harbour, where breakwaters and quays jut into the sea as the most angular shapes on the map. A coastal road links the port to the city inland, and around it there is very little else: the desert keeps the layout sparse and legible.
An El Marsa map poster is a study in contrast between a dense cluster of harbour lines and the empty space that surrounds it. The territory's status is disputed, and the map simply shows the ground as it is: coast, port and road on the edge of the Sahara.
Straight, angular piers and breakwaters projecting into the Atlantic, the sharpest geometry on an otherwise smooth coastline.
A long, almost unbroken shoreline running across the poster, which gives the composition its main line and a strong sense of scale.
The road running inland towards Laayoune, one of very few lines crossing the open sand around the port.

Why El Marsa
A map of El Marsa appeals to people who have worked at the port, lived on this coast, or are drawn to spare, empty landscapes. With so few lines on the page, every street and pier gets room to breathe.
You can set a personal title, subtitle and coordinates line and choose between Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand is a natural match for the desert, though any of the five works.
