The map

About this Estoril map poster

From above, Estoril is a thin town stretched along the Atlantic coast west of Lisbon. The coastal railway and the seafront promenade follow the shoreline almost side by side. Behind them, villa streets climb gently inland in loose, curving blocks. The shore itself is a soft line of small beaches and rocky points, and it faces south across the mouth of the Tagus.

The centre of the plan is the Parque do Estoril, a long rectangle of formal garden that runs from the casino down to the sea. It is one of the few straight axes in a town that otherwise follows the contours. The casino is often cited as an inspiration for Ian Fleming's first Bond novel, and during the Second World War several exiled European royals lived along this coast.

A Estoril map poster shows how neatly the resort was laid out against its landscape: the railway ruled along the water, the garden cut at right angles to it, and quieter residential streets spreading toward the hills. Further inland, the loop of the motor-racing circuit appears as a distinct shape at the edge of the built-up area.

01

Garden to the sea

The Parque do Estoril forms a clear rectangle of green between the casino and the waterfront. It is the one strongly geometric gesture in an otherwise curving town plan.

02

Coastal railway

The Cascais line runs right along the shore, tracing the coast between the beaches and the town. On the map it reads as a firm line beside the softer edge of the sea.

03

Inland circuit

North of the town, the racing circuit's loop stands out among roads and open ground. It is a sharp, closed form set apart from the looser street pattern around it.

Why Estoril

A map that means something

Estoril suits anyone who has spent summers on this coast, walked the promenade toward Cascais, or simply loves the Lisbon seaside. The plain line of the shore and the ordered garden make a calm, balanced composition that works in hallways and living rooms.

You can change the title, add a subtitle such as a wedding date or a family holiday, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files or order a print.
