The map
Fremont sits in northwest Ohio on the Sandusky River, a short distance upstream from Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. The river runs north through the middle of town, dividing it into east and west sides, each laid out in a regular grid. Several bridges connect the two halves, and rail lines cut across the pattern.
The town has notable history. Fort Stephenson stood here during the War of 1812, and Fremont was later home to President Rutherford B. Hayes, whose wooded estate, Spiegel Grove, now holds his presidential library and museum. On the map, the estate appears as a distinct green area within the residential streets.
A Fremont map poster shows a town organised by its river. The winding channel of the Sandusky crosses the composition, the grids on either side meet it at slight angles, and the bridges become key points in the design. It is a balanced, legible map with real historical depth.
The river flows north through the town centre, splitting Fremont in two and forming the most prominent natural feature on the poster.
The Hayes presidential estate is a large wooded tract among residential blocks, appearing as a calm open shape in the street pattern.
East and west Fremont each have their own street grids, slightly offset from each other and joined by bridges across the river.
