The map
Geldermalsen lies in the Betuwe, the fertile river country between the Rhine and the Waal in Gelderland. Since 2019 it has been part of the municipality of West Betuwe. On a map the river Linge winds through and past the town, bordered by dikes. The surrounding land is divided into long, narrow plots of orchards and pasture in typical Dutch river-landscape style.
The town grew around an important railway junction. The line between Utrecht and 's-Hertogenbosch meets the line toward Tiel and Dordrecht here. The tracks divide the map into distinct sections. Old streets near the Linge contrast with newer residential areas laid out in neat, planned blocks. The name is also known internationally from the Geldermalsen, a Dutch East India Company ship that sank in 1752 carrying Chinese porcelain and gold.
A Geldermalsen map poster is dominated by the flatness of the land. The river curves through it, the railway lines are straight, and the plots form a fine, even pattern. The town sits where these meet.

Two railway lines meet in Geldermalsen. Their long straight tracks cross the flat land and divide the town into clearly defined areas.
Long, narrow plots of fruit trees and pasture surround the town. They give the edges of the poster a fine striped pattern typical of the Betuwe.
