The map

About this Gossau map poster

Gossau lies in the canton of St. Gallen, a few kilometres west of the city of St. Gallen, in the rolling pre-Alpine country known as the Fürstenland. It was historically the main town of that territory, once held by the abbots of St. Gallen. Today it is a busy local centre with a clear, compact core and neighbourhoods spreading onto the gentle hills around it.

Transport lines have a strong presence on the map. Gossau is a railway junction where the main line toward Zurich meets regional routes, and the A1 motorway runs past the town. The tracks and road cut long, smooth curves through the frame, while smaller streets and farm lanes fill the gaps.

A Gossau map poster shows a typical eastern Swiss town at its most legible: a dense centre, orderly residential streets and then farmland almost straight away. There is no lake or river to dominate the view, so the rail lines, main roads and surrounding fields give the map its structure.

01

Railway junction

Main and regional lines meet at Gossau, and their long, gentle curves form some of the strongest lines crossing the map.

02

Fürstenland centre

Gossau was once the chief town of the Fürstenland, the St. Gallen abbey territory, and still serves as its local focal point.

03

Farmland edges

Beyond the built-up area, rolling fields and small farm roads begin almost at once, giving the print open, quiet margins.
