About this Goulmima map poster
Goulmima lies in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of south-eastern Morocco, in the valley of the Oued Gheris between Errachidia and Tinghir. From above, the town follows the green ribbon of the oasis, a band of palm groves and irrigated gardens that stands out sharply against the bare, stony land beyond. Newer streets extend along the main road, and older settlements cluster close to the cultivated land.
The oasis is known for its ksour, fortified villages built of rammed earth. The best known is the old Ksar of Goulmima, with its thick walls and narrow passages. The area has a strong Amazigh identity. Life in the valley has long been organised around sharing water through traditional irrigation channels.
