The map

About this Guiping map poster

Guiping lies in eastern Guangxi, and its map is organised around a confluence. The Qian River from the northwest and the Yu River from the southwest meet at the city and continue east as the Xun River, part of the West River system that flows toward Guangzhou. The urban area occupies the land in and around the fork.

The city is connected to one of the major events of nineteenth-century China: the Taiping Rebellion began in 1851 in the village of Jintian, within Guiping's territory. Closer to town, Xishan, or West Mountain, is a forested hill with temples and tea gardens, a well-known local landmark rising right beside the streets.

A Guiping map poster gives the rivers the central role. The two broad channels come together in a clear Y, bridges cross them, and the city's streets fill the land between. The green slope of Xishan appears as an open patch against the dense city.

River confluence

The Qian and Yu rivers meet at the city to form the Xun River, creating a clear Y-shaped junction of wide water through the urban map.

02

Xishan

West Mountain rises at the city's edge, a forested hill with temples and tea gardens that shows as open space beside the streets.

03

Bridges

Several bridges span the rivers, stitching the districts on either bank together and giving the map strong horizontal lines across the water.
