About this Hakkâri map poster
Hakkâri sits high in the mountains of southeastern Turkey, near the borders with Iraq and Iran. The terrain decides almost everything about its shape. The town fills a narrow valley floor and climbs the lower slopes, so the streets bend and switch back instead of forming a grid. Much of the land around it is too steep to build on.
That constraint gives the map a strong character. Built-up areas stretch along the valley in a long, uneven band. Roads snake uphill to outlying quarters, and a few routes thread out through the gorges toward neighbouring districts. The Zap River runs through the wider region, and its valley is one of the main corridors through this terrain.
