The map
Horgen lies on the left bank of Lake Zurich, south of the city of Zurich. The town begins at the water's edge and climbs steadily uphill, so the map shows streets following the contours of the slope, with the lakeshore railway and main road running in parallel along the bottom. Higher up, residential streets thin out into fields and forest.
A car ferry crosses the lake from Horgen to Meilen on the opposite shore, and its route is one of the defining links in the region. Horgen has a long industrial history, including textile machinery, and today it is part of the prosperous chain of lakeside towns stretching south from Zurich.
A Horgen map poster captures a typical Swiss lakeside layout: a long shoreline, parallel transport lines and streets climbing in terraces toward the ridge. The large open area of the lake on one side balances the dense pattern of the town and makes for a calm, well-proportioned image.

The car ferry crosses the lake to Meilen, a short route that links the two shores and gives the town its distinctive waterfront landing.
Streets climb uphill in winding lines, following the terrain toward the wooded Zimmerberg ridge above the town.
